So when you become pregnant you get a lot of unsolicited advice. Some of it's wanted.. and some of it's not. You learn to just kind of roll with the punches and listen to what people have to say. Most of the time it's coming from a good place. Other times, you just nod your head politely and then shake it off when they leave.
Here is some advise that has helped me prepare and feel a little better about how my experience will go:
"Buy depends. They will save your life as opposed to maxi pads. You don't have to worry about it moving or ruining clothing. "
"Have another woman there with you to help push you through labor."
"Don't bring any clothing you want to salvage to the hospital. The probability of it getting ruined is likely."
"Don't let your child have a bottle, paci, or anything else they can suck on for the first week or so to avoid nipple confusion and to help baby latch on during breast feeding."
"Don't buy too many bottles, or pacifiers as you won't know which kind they will like until they actually try it. "
"Don't buy too many new born outfits as they grow out of them quickly."
"Dont buy a nursing bras until after your baby is born."
"Save your receipts."
"Buy nipple cream NOW! Before they start chaffing, and get cracked. "
"Have someone come over and visit with you. It will be a considered a break."
"The way you feel is normal."
"Don't feel guilty for feeling the way you do."
"Don't listen to the horror stories."
"Nap while the baby naps."
"Have your baby sleep in the same room with you for the first few months. It will ease your fears.. as it will ease their fears too."
"If someone talks about their experience with pregnancy or parenthood, take it with a grain of salt. It doesn't mean it will be YOUR experience. People just like to share their experiences because this is such a memorable time. Good and bad. "
"Just when you think you can't do it anymore. That's when you're nearly there. "
"You dont need everything when they are first new born. For the few weeks/months they eat, sleep, poop and cry. "
"Buy diapers at costco. It will save you money.. and if not.. it will save LEAST save you time."
"Don't buy everything, wait and see what you will get at your baby shower. "
"Swaddling blankets saved my life!"
"Make sure you get gloves so they don't scratch their face."
"Make sure to check your insurance to see if they will cover a breast pump. Most of the time they do. "
"Don't worry so much about how much weight you gain. Trust yourself. Your body knows what to do, and you should be able to loose it, especially if breast feeding"
"Pump to help engorged breasts."
and well.. the list goes on and on. Have anything to add to the list? What helped or saved you? Heres your chance to give me your feedback! ;) If you haven't already.
