I've always thought natural birth sounded like something I'd want to try, but often when spoken about with friends or family I'd get discouraging feedback. That I couldn't take it, that I was crazy, or that they didn't understand why Id opt for it when given the choice.
Honestly, this was conflicting to me. Yes, the IDEA of a natural birth sounds ideal to me, but this is my first baby, maybe they were right. I don't know how painful it would be, and obviously if something dangerous happens I'd want as much medical intervention as humanly possible.
It seemed like I had two options. I either choose to be "crazy" and have a unmedicated birth, or I choose to be "weak" and get a epidural. A lose lose situation.
I've decided that in life there really is nothing that black and white. What one person chooses doesn't make them a wack job or wrong. As I have said before everything is circumstantial, and what works for one person may not work for the next.
That's what I've always believed. So when I found "How to Birth like a Rockstar" on facebook and then later took her classes I was very surprised at the way she was teaching.
If you go to the site howtobirthlikearockstar.blogspot.com
You will find the following intro:
"Welcome to How to Birth like a Rock Star!
A "Rock Star" birth does not have to be blissful, pain-free, or even drug-free, but it does have to be a birth where a woman feels that she is powerful, prepared, in control, and respected in her choices.
This program will give you the information you need to create the birth that you truly want for yourself and your little one. Don't let anything stand between you and the beautiful experience your baby's birth can be! Knowledge really is power, and we want women feeling powerful during the births of their babies! This class is designed to accommodate women who are planning for an un-medicated birth as well as women who are planning on having an epidural. Whatever your approach, make the choice to invest your time and energy in making this experience the very best that it can be! "
This was exactly the kind of experience that I had been searching for. I felt I was given enough education that NO MATTER WHAT happens, I would be able to weigh in and make the what felt right for me. Rather than just going off a whole bunch of Doctors suggestions. And by that I don't mean that what a doctor suggests is wrong.. but sometimes it isn't always medically necessary.
I like this new concept and maybe I'm being a bit redundant , but to me it means no matter what happens, natural, epidural, or c section, that it would be up to me, and that I'd feel proud of myself.
Let's face reality had I done natural and hated it the whole way and thought it was miserable, that's not measured as a success nor would it be if I was left feeling like a epidural robbed and masked the painful, but yet beautiful experience of giving life. That type of decision should be contemplated and thought out carefully and once thought out carefully that really eliminates a lot of regret.
This class turned my lose lose situation into a win win, it gave me realistic expectations of what could happen, a healthy way of viewing myself and my birth, and it helped me stop believing the mind set of what so many others believe.
FALSE!!!
There isn't just one right way to birth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also aside from the classes itself my favorite part was the MP3s that were given to me to listen to as kind of homework. Morning/Evening Meditation, and Daily Affirmations. These have helped me eliminate a lot of anxiety that I once had, not just about when I have my baby, but about a lot of worries that come with being a mother and the changes that will be occurring.
There was only 3 classes (On Saturdays) lasting 3 hours long,(1130-230) and it was free! It was only 10 dollars for the printing of the book I received and I highly recommend going if she opens more slots up.
Unfortunately I don't know when she will be doing more classes, but feel free to add her on facebook, or visit her blog. Or if you want to chat with me or borrow *MY* book when I'm done as long as returned, Id be more than happy to share.
9 weeks and 4 days left! Less if this baby decides to arrive early! Wish me Luck!

very good...doing all you can to feel ready is the right way to go! this is your baby and your birth so do it your way!
How exciting, Kira. I hope all goes well! Glad you are getting prepared. I had my first 3 babies in Provo and had them natural. The next 10 were in California in 2 different areas but I managed to have them natural because I talked my doctors into doing it my way. I was always in a hospital setting and open to whatever was best for the baby. You will do great!
