There were two more instances (very similar) that happened to me... watching my Mom in fear react to a mouse inside our comfortable home. I learned this behavior. I learned to be terribly afraid of mice!
Years went by, we moved, next to a field.(Irony!)So guess what happened? Yup. More mice, it got to the point that when that happened, I would sleep over, until it was caught. It seriously was a big deal and huge fear to me.
Well now here I am, out of HS. Happily Married for 4 years now, and my husband wants a pet. We can't have kitties, puppies or birdies where we currently live, so its pretty much, get some sort of reptile (which also kind of freaks me out), a fish (that die easily) or.... get a......... hamster!
When we went to petsmart, I really wasn't planning on budging. I thought "Ill talk James into a really nice Tank with some AWESOME fish!" But when we got there, we walked around, and I wasn't really impressed. So James looked at me with his big eyes and we went over to the cages. I stood a few feet back. I couldn't stand to close. He kept point and saying "what about that?" and "what about that one?" and I kept saying "No way!" They had gerbils, and guinea pigs, and all sorts of breeds, but they all looked to similar to mice. Too big, TOO SCARY!
Then, I saw something small. Very small, tiny in fact. I don't know what it is, but there is something about size that makes things cute. There Izzy stood. So small helpless and innocent. The lady let us hold him (or rather James) and she said that generally they were not friendly (but that you could train them to be) Izzy chose us. He liked James from the start. He was the smallest hamster in the cage and adorable. James asked if we could keep him and I ... willing gave in.
On the way home, I had to carry him home. Which creeped me out, but gradually and slowly, I have really took to the little guy! I have even held him! I faced my fear and held him! He really melted my heart, when I was getting up to go to the gym to run, and I hear something in our office, I went to go check on him, and there he was... Running on his wheel! He was getting his exercise in the same time i was! He does it every day at 4:30 and that is something me and the little man have in common. Hamsters can run up to 8 miles in a night, which I find impressive. If Izzy can do it, So can I.. which is another goal I have for myself. To gain distance in my running.
So in short. This is really cheesey, but here's to my last blog post about "I can do hard things" . Maybe this wasn't a "Hard" thing really. Naw, not too hard... but it still was a small turning point in my life. Not to let Major or Minor things stand in my way. I can do anything I want :)
So here is some pictures of the little man.
