Nausea Remedies (Well, Kind of)

Sadly.. I wouldn't say anything really significantly made it go away completely. In fact most didn't help much if at all, but there were  items that were better then others and made life a little more tolerable.

My first word of advice would be: Don't compare. Every Pregnancy is different, just like each person is different. Be patient with yourself and try different approaches to see what works for you. Most of the suggestions I got didn't help me personally and that was very frustrating, but you learn what works for YOU and what doesn't. I write these things as an outline, but clearly you are the only one will know what's best for you and your baby and that comes more with experience.

Things that helped:

Eating consistently. If I ate every hour or every two hours, and made sure I never was on empty. I felt my days were easier.

Resting. If I got enough rest and didn't push myself too hard, it directly effected how sick or not sick I was.

Ginger ale did nothing, and left a horrible taste in my mouth afterwords. Apple beer settled my stomach better, it had the carbonation, the crisp apple freshness-but minus all the corn fructose syrup and no after effects.

Saltines didn't do much either. Left my mouth very dry. In fact, no crackers did the trick. My senses have been heightened. Anything that was too grainy or  too starchy I didn't like. Pringles and Gold Fish once again settled better. They weren't too grainy, and had a good flavor that also helped abate cravings.

Acupuncture wrist bands. I did notice they worked, but they made such a mild difference. They were painful, and for such little difference on most days I wouldn't wear them, but on the really really bad days Id wear them and find temporary relief.

I read an article that most women looked to carbs as their answer when pregnant. Recently, a study revealed that protein actually seemed to help more however when it came to morning sickness. I don't know how true that is because  there were plenty of high carb foods(Toast) that gave me relief, but one thing that always sat well with me was scrambled eggs..When in doubt, Id just fix eggs, and I never had a problem with feeling sick afterwards. (Though they are hard to eat day after day. )

My prenatals are high in iron which can be hard to digest for any belly, let alone a pregnant one. I kept taking them up until about week 9 or 10, but by then a lot of the time it would just come right back up. So my doctor said I could take some children chewables with the folic acid just during my first trimester.(This probably helped me the most) I plan to go back on my prenatal though now that I'm feeling better.

Preggie Pops. Okay.. confession. I never really found a place that sold the official thing. BUT! I did find that sucking on jolly ranchers, air heads, or lollipops helped a lot. (Please note to brush teeth religiously every day  otherwise cavities may occur.)

Going along those same lines. Popcicles  or just plain ice was something I could suck on and prevented me from getting dehydrated.

Things that DID NOT help. AKA made me puke:

Avacados. (When I found out I was pregnant, I went a little crazy and went super healthy and read that avacados are one THEE best things for you when with child. So I ate one every day from week 4 to probably week 6 or 7... and then the day came when I became very sick and could not look at one with out gagging.  Same with most veggies

Lemonaid made my stomach sour. Pun intended.

Chicken Noodle Soup was HORRIBLE! I guess you have more bile/and liquid in your stomach.. so this only added to the problem. My stomach felt so full and sloshy.

Water was hard to drink for the same reason. I had to drink smaller amounts and slower.

Anything too greasy was a disaster.

Yogurt and ice cream tasted good when eating, but I always paid for it later.

and that's about it.

Were you sick when you were pregnant? What helped you?
